Engagement objective
International Justice Mission (IJM) in Maharashtra has collaborated closely with the Department of Women and Child Development to support the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), a quasi-judiciary body for children in need and care of protection.
IJM’s intervention has led to improvement and noticeable changes within the childcare system, particularly in the way the CWC dispenses its duties to children in need of care and protection.
StratComm worked with IJM to codify and document this mentorship model to make it readily adaptable for use by other stakeholders, especially other states.
Our process
With technical inputs from the IJM Maharashtra team, in-depth review of programme documents, and discussions with CWC members and government officials, we codified the model into step-by-step process interspersed with case studies from the field showcasing IJM’s experience in undertaking this approach, the successes, and the challenges therein.
Key outcome
The knowledge products that emerged from this collaboration support IJM’s engagement with the Maharashtra state government for institutionalization of the project and position the model for scale both at state and national levels. The ‘Do-it-yourself’ guide provides guidance, steps, and support materials for the replication, and scale up of the pilot ‘CWC Mentorship Model’.
